The Nile sparkled like molten gold as the sun rose over the bow of Cleopatra’s barge. “The Glitter of the Sleepers,” chanted a voice, as his senses shut down, his breath suspended and his heart ceased to beat. His mother stood in the shadows over him, her bronze scarab locket dangling on a chain around her neck, but at the last moment, she turned away.
